A digital drawing pad is basically a computer like device that will allow you to draw imagines on the screen just like you would draw them with a pen and pencil. Essentially, when you have a digital drawing pad you no longer need to scan in drawings into your computer as the digital image is being drawn!

When you look at a digital drawing pad it may not look like all that much.  It is basically a flat surface on which you are able to draw.  You will do the drawing with an attached or included stylus, which feels much like a pen and looks like one, too.  The image will not actually appear on the digital drawing pad; instead it will be seen on the computer monitor.  Some of the newer pads on the market today also feature a secondary screen to allow you to see what you are drawing as you are going along.

A digital drawing pad can range from very affordable to quite expensive.  For this reason, you will want to shop around. Some of these digital drawing pads are made essentially to take the place of a mouse pad.  Others are meant for digital drawing and for those who work with CAD.  This is a big difference, so this is where price variances come into play.

If you want to buy a digital drawing pad you would be well advised to shop around.  When you shop around you should take your time to shop locally, online, and even through auction sites.  Buying second hand is an option if you are looking to buy on a budget or not sure how much you will use the pad.  Just be certain that you look around before you buy so you are well aware of all of the different features available to you as well as the price range.
