Tablet vs.
Laptop: What to Consider Before You Buy
If you are in the market for a new computer and you
have been looking around you know that the tablet and the laptop are both options. This is a confusing option for most people because many people use the terms
interchangeably. There are some important differences between the
two and their capabilities, benefits, disadvantages, and more. You
need to consider some things before you decide if the tablet or the laptop is a better option for
you. If you consider functionality alone, the tablet vs laptop
comparison is over because both of them are on par with one another.
There are some disadvantages of the tablet vs the
laptop. If you are one of those people who loves a large screen,
you may find that the tablet is simply too small for you. A 14.1
inch screen is about as big as you are going to find on the tablet, and this is not all that
common. The tablet PC is also limited in that it does not have
an inbuilt optical drive. You can connect externally, but for
some this is a deal breaker. The idea of not including drives is
to cut down on weight and size.
If you plan to share your computer with another user,
the laptop wins the tablet vs laptop comparison. The tablet is
meant to understand your handwriting and it may not understand the handwriting of more than one
person. Laptops are not set up this way, so it isn’t an
issue.
Tablets have another thing against them in the
comparison and that is the likelihood of screen damage. Because of
the use of the pen device, the screen is simply more likely to be damaged during use. On that note, the tablet PC is also less budget friendly than the laptop, so
if you are trying to be budget conscious then you will want to stick with the laptop.
Of course, if you want to be able to flip your screen
around and write on the surface of your screen as you take orders, draw, or any number of things the laptop will
lose the tablet vs. laptop comparison. The fact of the matter is
that the tablet is meant for this type of use while the laptop is not.
If you want a computer that is lighter weight and as
portable as can be, than the tablet wins again. The tablet does not
have the drives and the size of many laptops, so it is much lighter and can be transported
easier. Of course, this is only beneficial if you do not need
the drives while you are out and about and traveling with your computer!
